Intuitive Parking Sensors

Recently reversed and bumped into a trash can. No damage to my FJ nor the bumper/sensors. But now when in reverse the sound is activated without any objects behind my FJ. The sound is not the normal detection sound. It's only two continuous beeps. Anyone know how to repair/reset the parking sensors? Thanks in advance!

First, try just cleaning it with a mild cleaner.

Next thing I would do is check the plug connections, they are under the bumper near the corners of the FJ. I would unplug and plug them back in to ensure each is seated properly.
Then you could trace the lines looking for any obvious damage.

I'm not sure how to reset it yet.... could always try unplugging the battery for a while, but my guess is a faulty connection or bad sensor.

Good luck!

Oh, welcome to the forum!!

Probably when you bumped into the trash can your sensors might have broken The sensor works like a radar...it sends out acoustic signals and determines the distance based on the time lag of sending and receiving the signal.

So if there is a foreign object stuck near the transducer it might prompt a false alarm. I think you should clean the sensor probe first with a mild cleaner as suggested by Winterpeg and also air brush the sensor.

If it still doesn't work then check the wire taps.

Hope this helps.
