Shudder problems

If you are experiencing any kind of shuddering problems with your FJ while accelerating get your differential fluid changed BUT make sure you also ask for a Transmission Flush so that the differential fluid in your torque converters also gets cleaned. We had the differential fluid changed a couple of times and within two weeks the shuddering was back. On the third change I asked for the fluid in the torque converters to be changed as well and was told I would need a Transmission Flush done to achieve that. We have not experienced any more shuddering with our FJ at any speed and it has been well over three months now.

After flush make sure to install a transmission cooler to keep the temperatures down during summers off roading or doing hills. Its a omission by the company thats inexcusable for a vehicle of this category. Shudder is usually the glazing of the torque converter or the failure of friction modifiers in the ATF due to heat and breakdown. Replenishing with new oil fixes it if the clutch is not badly damaged. I use a Hayden 679 but anything of that size from Trucool or Derale will work equally well.

Both good tips. Should be a good future reference.
