i just bought an FJ and I have so many problems.. help

hello all.. i have my FJ for only 4 days and when i press on the brake it stops then it accelerates...also my brake makes a noise in the interior of the car when pressed... another thing is i know you arenot supposed to drive it in 4 d so obviously D is used.. in D the car hesitates in first gear and when i stop and then press the accerator, the transmission jumps and kicks the car back... has anyone had any of these problems? i love the car but now i dont want it and its a shame cause ive had it not long at all. its a 2008 with 25,000 miles.. any info would help. thanks

Buy it from a dealer? Or private sale? Mine is manual transmission, so I'm not familiar with those types of issues.

i bought it from a toyota dealer.. mine is auto so yeah i dont know whts wrong with it.. you have a nice color.. mine is black.. all stock n plain lol..

Capt Sensible 06-27-2011 09:34 PM

take it back quick! none of that is supposed to be happening. what kind of warranty do you have?

FJTom 06-27-2011 11:47 PM

At 25000 you should still be under factory warranty at the least. Definitely take it back and tell them what is going on

i thought it was a 3 year/30,000 powertrain... if the fj was originally bought in January of 2008, it's over 3 years old now.

FJTom 06-28-2011 12:09 AM

Good point, if that's true. I really have no idea what it is, I was just thinking 30K at the least. But didn't think about the three year thing. So guess it depends in what month it was originally sold

Dave(man) 06-28-2011 03:10 AM

Either way....don't waste any time....get back to that dealer immediately and say WTF ? ! ? ! ? ! :shakehead:

Capt Sensible 06-28-2011 03:12 AM

Well said Dave. WTF indeed.

FJTom 06-28-2011 02:37 PM

True true. Any reputable dealer should at least have a 30 day warranty no matter what. Hope it wasn't an as-is sale

DirtGhost 06-28-2011 02:45 PM

What does he mean you are not suppose to drive in 4D ?

Winterpeg 06-28-2011 04:40 PM

Yep, dealer time.

If it's all just normal Toyota stuff the dealer will be able to explain it better than us on the forum with no test drive....

FJ's rock. You can always get a lemon with any kind of vehicle though.

I was thinking he meant 4wd? But who knows

DirtGhost 06-28-2011 05:31 PM

Whew ! I thought he meant not to drive in 4D on the automatic !!!! :shakehead:

Actually, now that I think about it, this sounds A LOT like the issue I ha had with my Cherokee. Even though I was driving it in 2WD, the transfer case had slipped, and stripped the gears. When I would accelerate, it would spin until it would catch, and then jerk the vehicle really hard. Mine was covered under warranty .. they had to replace the entire thing.

Even if you bought it used ... there is a 30 day warranty that they should honor. Make them fix or return it.

Mine is stock also. If you end up keeping yours, do some image searches on black FJs ... there are some sweet ones out there, including on this forum!

I think what he means by 4D is the position on the auto-tranny....it locks it into 4th gear as you can lock it into 3rd....2nd and low....then there is just D (drive) where the intelligent drive chooses the right gear to be in....

That's what I read.

FJTom 06-29-2011 05:33 PM

That makes more sense I guess

DirtGhost 06-29-2011 06:21 PM

Cool

Dave(man) 07-11-2011 04:02 AM

if that was all legit i hope that poor dude got that all figured/worked out...he just kind of wandered away...

:wtf2:

Capt Sensible 07-11-2011 09:30 AM

Yep, it happens.
