Custom FJ grille overlay

I designed this and had it CNC machined. I wasn't sure about it...what do you think?

looks good to me. if the cost was reasonable, i'll bet you could get a few more made up and sell them.

i think i have seen something like that out there...but i'm not in to the manufacturing of anything. this was a one time project.

I can get something like that done in stainless steel if you like .

Winterpeg 06-14-2011 07:40 PM

Looks good.

If I could actually still see my grill behind the winch control and driving lights I'd buy a grill like that... black anodized ;)

FJTom 06-14-2011 10:28 PM

I'd like it if it was black :)

I mean we see a lot of custom grilles for trucks from different manufacturers a lot but not much for SUVs, more so the FJ. You either have to look real hard or to fabricate stuff yourself like what you did, birdman.

You know you can have it patented or licensed out right? At least you can have some extra income with your effort from the project :)

^^^ The FJ Cruiser has a huge aftermarket parts cache, that is, when you consider how many FJ's are on the road. We cannot touch the aftermarket world of say Jeep, but jeeps have been around for decades and there are millions of them on the road. One thing you wont see much of when it comes to FJ Cruisers is "foofoo" parts. No offense to the OP, but stuff like this grill. It looks nice, but really at the end of the day doesn't serve a purpose. Don't get me wrong the parts are out there, but not as much as other brands. And finally, I personally have never patented anything, but from what I hear, if you're going to patent something you need to be prepared to spend $20,000+, it'll take a couple years, and then after all that there's the gamble that no one will give a shit about your product anyway.

I didn't know those patents were very expensive! :( his DIY mod was really something special and I really appreciate him doing that custom grille even though it is not to everyone's tastes. I'm sure others like their modded cars look sleek and stylish, while others would like a very fancy and loud looking one.
