You can run 33's with a leveling kit. THere is only one way to go if you want to run spacers and that's with EZ-Lift Suspension Systems. They designed the original spacers. Their spacers set on top of your coilover or coils so you don't have to disassemble your struts and preload the coils. Your rig will maintain its original ride characteristics. Once they patented their design the other companies like Daystar came up with their split spacer designs. EZ lifts are quite affordable too.

A spacer lift will, for the most part, maintain your stock "ride". The feel of the FJ will not really change, only the height. A suspension lift, sense you're replacing both spring and shock, yes, it will definitely feel different. Most will say for the better, but that's up for interpretation. Spacer will probably be fine for you. But, you know yourself obviously better than we do, so if you think that you'll put a spacer lift on there, and then get out there and want more, and ultimately decide on putting a suspension lift on, then save your money and go with the suspension lift right off the bat. Plus, if you want to go with an after market bumper and winch one day, you'll need a new suspension. The stock setup cannot handle that much weight.

Hope this helps. Good luck. Welcome to the forum. And lets see some pics!!!

Since we're on the topic.... gonna highjack a bit.....

I have the Old Man Emu suspension and my FJ sits a bit higher than others...

So I will be able to fit 33's? I'm looking at 285.75.16 tires.....

FYI I was running 33s without a lift. They would only rub on occasion, if I was backing up and had the wheel cranked or if I had the wheel cranked and went over a bump or something at considerable speed ( > 20 mph). Now granted, they are tall and skinny. With a wider tire you might have more problems

Hey, I know this post is a little old but I also want to install a leveling kit and I was wondering how high I need to lift my FJ to allow the suspension to release to install the kit? I was considering 16" jack stands but I don't know if this is enough clearance, can anyone point me in the right direction?
