Default Considering a Body Lift

Ok, anyone want to talk me out of adding a body lift kit? I already have a 3" suspension lift, 33s and a BMC. I'm planning to move up to 35s next time I replace my tires and I want a little more clearance for the tires.

Btw, I plan to replace my wheels when I move up to 35s and haven't decided which...so no specs on BS, offset or width.

If you have pics showing gained clearance with a body lift then it'd be great to see them.

If you have horror stories caused by the body lift then let's hear them.

If you just want to b*tch about something...then ok, whatever.

Body Lift. Now think about it . This will make your truck top heavy. Center gravity will move up. You will also have to extend parts (shifters, steering links,Wiring to parts of truck that is on chassis.
Now lets talk off roading. Taller means you need to go wider to stabilize the height. Some trails you can barley get a stock FJ through. There allot of reasons in not going higher. This was just a few.

I could be mistaken, but I believe a 1" body lift on an FJ, is a simple as lifting the body, adding the new spacers and bolts, and then adding a steering column spacer. Everything else should be fine. Dirt does bring up some good points though. Personally, I don't like body lifts because of the added stress on the bolts. Granted a 1" isn't that big of a deal, but I've heard stories of jeeps/trucks with 3" body lifts getting into wrecks and the body rips clear off the frame.

I would say go for it. The con's of a 1" body lift to me don't out weigh the pros. Don't be doing some crazy off kilter driving because of your center of gravity. You should be golden.

1" would be OK, anything more is borderline sketchy IMO

I have a roof rack and I use it, so by design Toyota should have accomodated a change in Center of Gravity. Let's say 1" lift...does that really change the dynamics of how the vehicle handles more than a lifted suspension?

Top Heavy to me means more weight above the center line than can be compensated for by what's below the center line. Most of the weight of the vehicle would still be in the frame, suspension, running gear, engine, fuel...etc. Or am I looking at this wrong because the suspension moves so off-kilter driving causese the Center of Gravity to be dynamic.

Good points about shearing bolts and possible added extension for the steering column. I didn't think about that one. I don't know if that piece comes with a 1" lift kit so how's it done?
